Neonatal Resusitation Device, IDDS Aarogyam

Fruit Processing Report, IDDS Amazon

Participants at IDDS Amazon explored new ways of processing fruit to create value-add products such as jams and chocolate from the pulp, shells, and seeds of Amazonian fruits.  In addition, the team worked with community members to develop appealing branding, packaging, and a business plan to support the sale of these products.

EZ NCORO Human-Powered Washing Machine Report, IDDS Botswana

The Ez Ncoro Team built a simple, low-cost, human-powered washing machine with the aim of reducing the time and effort required to wash clothes and conserving water, a precious commodity for the D’kar residents. With such a product, the D’kar community, especially the women (who are culturally assigned the role of washing clothes) can use their extra time towards rearing their families or running businesses.

Vertical Farming with Rainwater Drip-Irrigation, IDDS Climate Change Adaptation

IDDS participants and community members designed an alternative agricultural production system that optimizes the use of water using low cost technologies and less space. The prototype consists of a covered system of vertical orchards that collect rainwater and is estimated to yield 2.7-4.4 times as much compared to traditional farms using the same area of land. This report is in Spanish.

Sook Sisaket Local Health Club Initiative, IDDS Sisaket

IDDS participants and community members designed a series of simple exercises for villagers emphasizing adults. They created basic exercise equipment using local bamboo to supplement the exercises. Their project was rapidly taken up by local villagers who had wanted to establish similar initiatives, working with the team to establish a health club who meets daily to lead each other in different exercises. This is particularly useful since diabetes and hypertension are common health problems for villagers, but there are few health promotion strategies currently being implemented.

Menstrual Hygiene Pads Project Report, IDDS Zambia

TempIt Baby Thermometer Project Report, IDDS Aarogyam

IDDS  Aarogyam participants and community members from the KREST group created a low cost baby thermometer prototype that is specific to the neonatal anatomy, accurate in its read-out, and appropriate for low or illiterate health workers.  The prototype also includes a function for early detection of certain sicknesses. Asan Rasta Report, IDDS Lahore

Autonomous Network Report, IDDS Amazon

Participants at IDDS Amazon worked to bring quality internet service to the community while respecting local practices. This project included a prototyped bamboo tower to receive the internet signal, a cluster consisting of the first group of houses to receive internet service, and network management plan and a business roadmap on how to use collective decision making to guide next steps in providing internet to the wider community.
