The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves Technology's Director of Standards, Technology, and Fuels and IDDS Cookstoves Lead Organizer, Ranyee Chiang, recently spoke at TEDx DesNations on the need for improved cookstove designs as well as the measures to match.

“Time for a cooking lesson that will forever change the way you think about cooking,” Ranyee Chiang begins in her charming and forceful talk about the 3 billion people who still cook on fuel burning stoves. That’s half the world. And the health and safety impacts are tremendous. The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves is trying to change all that, and one of their steps is finding a standard.

Ranyee Chiang is the Director of Standards, Technology and Fuels at the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, hosted by the United Nations Foundation, an alliance of 1300 organizations. The American Association for the Advancement of Science selected Chiang as one of its “40@40 Fellows” and the American National Standards Institute awarded her their “Next Generation Award” in 2015. She is also the Chairperson of the Technical Committee for Clean Cookstoves and Clean Cooking Solutions of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
